How Prioritizing You in Your Career can Grow Your Networth!

Can you believe that in 30 days, we will ring in 2024? Where did the year go? I don't know about you, but it's early 2021. December is a great time to reflect on where you are, where you've been, and where you want to go. I've talked to so many people regarding job changes - those individuals include new grads, mid-level professionals, and senior professionals. December is an excellent time to reflect, plan, and pivot for your upcoming goals. I've enjoyed connecting and meeting some fantastic career and personal development professionals this year. I'd like you to meet someone helping you prioritize the YOU in your career, Mary Snowden-Lorence from My Career Priority.

Meet Mary Snowden-Lorence - Helping Prioritize the You in Your Career!

Greetings! I'm Mary Snowden-Lorence, Consultant & Career/Executive Coach (MBTI & Gallup-certified). I'm excited to partner with The Wealth Playground, connect with this community, and share more about My Career Priority. I love helping people take up space and make time for themselves and their careers - especially when they have yet to have the opportunity to prioritize their needs and dreams.

Today, I'm honored to share some quick tips on approaching full-time employment from an internship, career change, or moving from a hiatus period.

As an early career and/or emerging industry professional, shifting from one job to the next can be expensive! However, it doesn't have to be, and you should lean on your skills, abilities, resources, and relationships (current and evolving) to help you to the next level and stage of your career.

Here are four tips to help you grow from an intern to a full-time industry professional and/or entrepreneur:

1) REFLECT on your internship/work experience, including any new skills, experience, and relationships/networks you've added. Ensure you update your materials (resume and I Love Me Folder) and get feedback from others you've worked with to help you craft industry-driven language, measurable outcomes, and impact.

2) RESEARCH various career paths and salaries, and give yourself options to "stage" your career. Are there 1-3 functions (roles) you see yourself possibly trying as you begin your career? Be flexible, and stay open to using and learning new skills as you accumulate industry experience – you never know what jobs will be hiring (or frozen), and agility enables your continued success!

3) ENGAGE with industry professionals from your past, current, and future. Yes, I said "future." Referrals and relationships are a massive part of the "hidden job market" and will help you "spread the word" about your skills and aspiring employment (LinkedIn is your best friend). Don't neglect recent internship-related contacts – you never know who may be willing to introduce you or share a new connection.

4) COLLECT "budget hacks" and "financial-friendly" tips from other former interns, entry-level colleagues, and experienced industry professionals (internal and external). Everyone had to start somewhere, and many of us remember how difficult (and/or expensive) that "beginning" was. You'd be surprised how much money you can save with in-office supplies, company/community discounts, and being willing to accept support/resources from others. It takes a village (and one day, you can return the favor to another person who also needs it).

I hope these tips will benefit you and others within your networks/communities and support your continued journey toward financial and career wellness.
